Hi guys, very interesting. I subscribe to a lot of podcasts and you have very “listenable to” voices. While ‘I’m not a novice drinker, I haven’t spent much time educating myself on the brewing process etc, so a question I have is, why do craft breweries seem to go so heavy on the alcohol content (presumably) in pursuit of flavor?

Yup, US brewers go big on abv and I’ve been trying to answer why for over a decade. I think much of it comes down to “bigger is better” mentality . Now we’re in a situation where brewers have to brew big just to keep up with the expectation. It was the same with IBUs in the late ’00s.
